Should you swear?

Throughout the history of content creation, one of the biggest questions that has divided so many marketers is “Should you swear in your content?”. There have been many successful content creators who choose not to swear in both their written and video content, and on the flip side, there are plenty of content creators that swear in every other sentence.


There are strengths and weaknesses to both sides of the argument, and ultimately, it's up to you if you want to swear in your content. Here are some of the best reasons you should (and shouldn't) use profanity in your content:


It's more authentic

The biggest benefit to swearing in your content whether written or audio is that it's generally seen as more authentic which almost every audience loves. By swearing in your content, it will be seen as removing a filter that a lot of other content creators will hold up. as a result, this could lead to your content having more of an impact on your target audience and even to them liking and trusting you more overall.


Sharing emotion and impact

Another reason to start swearing in your content is it's often much easier to share and put across the raw emotion and impacts you're trying to display with your content. This is also because it's seen as removing a lot of filters that content creators may have and again might just lead to your audience trusting you and your platform more.


Alienating audiences

This is by far the biggest downside to swearing in your content. There are some audiences that simply don't like it and when you do start swearing in your content, they may decide to avoid your business and brand altogether. This isn't too much of a problem if you only want to interact with an audience that enjoys swearing. However, a lot of mainstream businesses may be hesitant to give you Brand deals and affiliate marketing opportunities because of your choice to swear in your content.


As I said before you should ultimately decide whether you want to swear or not based on your own personal preferences. You know best whether you naturally swear when you type or when you speak. If you do in either of those cases, we strongly recommend that you keep consistent and swear as you would naturally.
